50 North committed to the construction and renovation work long before COVID-19.
The expansion of the building started in March. The renovation of the East side of the existing building was to begin later this year or early in 2021.
Due to the unforeseen mandate of closing 50 North because of COVID-19 on March 12, 2020, the 50 North Board of Trustees made the decision to make the most of the required shutdown and fast track the renovation schedule. The decision to move forward on the East side renovation now was mainly to limit the disruption to our members.
Here is an update of our current construction:
East Side Renovation
- The new ceiling, heating, electrical, and plumbing is now complete. The final touches on painting, cabinets, carpet, casework, and doors are scheduled to be done by mid-July.
West Side Building Addition
- All of the concrete has been completed, the steel studs for the exterior walls are being built. Roof trusses will be on-site next week and installation will start soon after. The exterior sanitary sewer line and storm line are being installed this week.
East Side Building Addition
- All the concrete walls and the masonry walls for the basement have been completed and are ready for the concrete floor to be poured and finished. The structural steel for the first floor is scheduled to be delivered next week, the installation of the steel beams and decking will follow. Once the decking has been installed, the concrete for the first floor can be poured and finished.
- All new light post bases are installed with new conduit lines connecting them to electrical lines.
- A surge pond was dug.
