As the temperature rises, so does the importance of staying hydrated—especially for older adults. At 50 North’s Wellness Center, we care about your health and want to remind you how vital it is to drink water throughout the day.

Why Hydration Matters as We Age

As we get older, our bodies naturally retain less water, and our sense of thirst becomes less reliable. That means we may not always feel thirsty even when we need fluids. This can lead to dehydration, which brings several risks, including:

  • Dizziness and falls
  • Confusion or fatigue
  • Headaches and muscle cramps
  • Serious health complications

Even mild dehydration can affect your energy, mood, and physical health. But the good news? It’s completely preventable.

 Simple Tips to Stay Hydrated

  • Drink water consistently throughout the day—don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle when you’re on the go.
  • Eat hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges.
  • Limit caffeine and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration.
  • “Even if you’re not thirsty, sip anyway!”
