Support the Green Space Project at 50 North

I am proud to offer my wholehearted support for 50 North’s visionary Green Space Project - an extraordinary initiative that will bring new life, purpose, and connection to hundreds of older adults in our community.

For 55 years, 50 North has been a lifeline for older adults and their families in Hancock County. It’s a place where people find guidance, support, and connection through some of life’s most significant transitions -
from work into retirement, from independence to supportive care, and from wellness to managing chronic conditions.

In just the past three years, daily membership has nearly doubled - from fewer than 500 to over 900 individuals. This remarkable growth has made one thing clear: our community is seeking more than programs - they’re looking for meaningful connection, wellness, and a place to truly belong.

So that’s where the Green Space Project comes in.

This isn’t just about building a walking path or adding a few benches. It’s about creating a vibrant, inclusive outdoor environment where every person - regardless of ability - can move freely, breathe deeply, and feel a renewed sense of purpose.

 Imagine:

  • A beautifully designed walking path that encourages outdoor movement and supports physical wellness, allowing members – including those with mobility aids – to move safely and confidently.

  • Shaded seating areas and a covered pavilion that offer space for rest, invite meaningful conversation, spark creativity, and support expanded wellness classes.

  • Expanded raised garden beds that offer space for growing, learning, and sharing – where hands get dirty, stories are shared, and friendships bloom.

  • Accessible restrooms, emergency phones, and thoughtful amenities designed for comfort, safety, and ease of use – reflecting the dignity and care every member deserves.

  • A new Chore Services building designed to meet the growing demand for in-home support and mobility equipment so members can remain safely and independently at home, and maintenance services – while also providing accessible space for member workshops like woodworking and DIY projects.

  • Expanded parking to welcome our growing number of daily visitors, ensuring every member and guest can easily access the programs and services that make 50 North feel like home.

This is more than a construction project - it’s a promise. A promise to create a space where older adults can continue to grow, engage, and live fully. A promise that says: You matter. You belong. And your life is still full of possibility.

But to bring this vision to life, we need your help.

By giving to the Green Space Project, you’re not just funding a facility - you’re investing in joy, in independence, and in the kind of community we all hope to grow older in.

Your support will directly impact the lives of thousands - today and for generations to come.

If this vision speaks to you, I invite you to join me in making it a reality. Whether through a donation, a conversation, or simply spreading the word, your support means the world.

Together, let’s build something that reflects the best of who we are - and the future we want for every older adult in Hancock County.

    With gratitude,

    Carolyn Copus,
    50 North Executive Director
